To some this might cause alarm, but the truth is that these signs are completely safe, are regulated by the US and Canadian governments, and are suitable for all types of exit sign applications.

Most customers look for battery operated signage to ensure safe evacuation during an emergency but the fact remains that there are no truly battery-operated EXIT signs. The batteries that are within electric exit signs are simply for emergency backup purposes, they will not remain illuminated for more than 90 minutes. Essentially, our self powered signs are “battery powered”, it’s just that the battery is the Tritium, which lasts for up to 20 years.

Differences in Self Luminous Exit Signs

When choosing a model, consider the how long the building will be in use to decide on the lifespan to order. If the building or facility will operate more than 10 years, choose a 20 year lifespan so that after 10 years, the signs do not have to be replaced – this saves time and money in the future.

Red, green, and black face color choices are standard. White or black frame color choice is standard. We also offer self luminous exit signs with white face color, but for these models we must use more tritium to meet UL standards so they are slightly more expensive.

Lastly, choose between a single or double-sided sign. For applications where EXIT will need to be visible from either direction, usually in a hallway or other corridor, select a double-sided model. For wall (back) mount applications, typically seen over an exit door, a single sided model is suitable. Both types come with an aluminum mounting bracket that allows you to install the exit sign in the manner that you decide.
